On June 24, 1997 the Crue got back together. When Motley Crue released 'Generation Swine,' it marked the first time that Vince Neil returned to the band since 1989 (it was also the last time Tommy Lee was on drums until 2008.)

The album stands out from almost everything else the band has ever done, and for that reason it's LOVED by a big chunk of fans, and hated by others. There are people out there who can't stand any other Crue, but find this album in their music collections.

One of the weird things about the album, that may have led to its success with some people, is that most of the lyrics were written with singer John Corabi in mind. Corabi had taken over vocals for Neil when he left the group, and primary lyricist Nikki Sixx was writing this album without the thought of Neil returning. So on songs like "Beauty," Nikki Sixx actually had to take over some of the singing duties, he can be heard taking on most of this song:

The album didn't produce many singles (two, actually) and only one music video. That video was for their lead single "Afraid." The song itself achieved moderate success, hitting the Top 10 on the charts.

The video is almost as interesting as the song itself.

Let's start with the song. It has some massive industrial overtones, but plays like a ballad. Kind of like Ministry meets Bush. The lyrics are on par with most Crue songs. They weren't breaking ground there. This is another example of a song written with Corabi in mind that Neil had to execute. At least that's how it sounds. The visuals in the video are odd, too. It has hints of The Cranberries' "Dreams" video, while Neil pulls off the Bono/Scott Weiland thing:

Anyway, happy 18th 'Generation Swine'
