10 Photos That Are Uniquely Shreveport-Bossier [PHOTOS]
No one in Shreveport-Bossier is a stranger to these photos.
I'll be honest, I've only lived in Shreveport-Bossier for three years now. However, I have learned that this city is known for several things that make it one of the most unique places to live. There is no second-hand copy of our city.
B-52
Such an iconic aircraft and one that reminds us of freedom every time we see it flying over out city. We know the sound of it, we know the smell of it, and we love the men and women who fly in it. Sure, you can find a few in Minot, North Dakota, but would you want to live there? Nah, it's Shreveport-Bossier all the way.
Mardi Gras
Who doesn't love themselves some Mardi Gras? Whether it's as a Krewe member or a screaming spectator at the parade, we love it all. Philanthropy, entertainment, and king cakes... Now that's a good time we certainly love to roll!
Crawfish
Along with Mardi Gras and football, Crawfish season is the third major season of Shreveport-Bossier. Why, we even have an entire festival dedicated to the dish and a hockey team that is back on the ice this season that bears its name. Oh, and the spicier, the better!
Football
We sure do love our football in Shreveport-Bossier and we are lucky enough to host our own bowl game right here in our own backyard. The Independence Bowl. Each year, we see elite college teams from across the country battle it out for I-Bowl glory.
Hockey
While we're on the subject of sports... How about them Mudbugs? No, not the ones you eat. Shreveport-Bossier is home to a unique sport in the south, ice hockey. Our own pride and joy, The Mudbugs, are back this September for another season of ice-cutting action.
Film
Shreveport-Bossier and Northwest Louisiana, are prime locations for Hollywood films. We've had several major motion pictures shot in our own backyard including, The Guardian, Year One, The Mist, X-Men Origins. We also have several shows that have called Shreveport their home like Salem and True Blood.
Festivals
We have numerous festivals that take over Shreveport, Bossier and surrounding areas on a regular basis, like Mudbug Madness, Red River Revel, Highland Jazz and Blues Fest, and more. My favorite happens to be Louisiana Film Prize Festival that literally shuts down Texas Street in downtown Shreveport. The Prize allows filmmakers from all over the country to shoot a short film in hopes of winning $50,000 (the largest cash prize for a short film in the country).
Shows
From Taylor Swift kicking off her 1989 World Tour to the various shows at our numerous casinos, there is always something to see in Shreveport-Bossier. Taylor is easily the biggest pop star to come here, but we're slowly seeing more pop artists make their way here. There is always rock and country on tap, as well as comedy and theater.
Scenery
We have beautiful areas all across Shreveport-Bossier with unique scenery, like "Angel's Landing" pictured above. I believe this is why we are such a hot spot for Hollywood to come film. You can transform our city into any setting you need. Plus, we have rivers, lakes, woods, etc. It's easy to get away from it all out here.
Heat
It's dang hot in Shreveport Bossier. No matter how you swing it, you can't get away from the heat and humidity of our summers. It's a love-hate relationship. And I can't help but think that I am just like this football player pictured above, except I don't go through two-a-days.
I have to say, I came to Shreveport-Bossier without any expectations. After being here for a few years, I now have extremely high expectations for every other place I visit. Shreveport-Bossier is definitely one of a kind!
