I am an unapologetic Highland Hood Rat.  I have lived in, what I like to call, "The New Orleans of Shreveport" for most of my adult life. I've watched things come, and I've watched things go. In the past few years, two of my favorite places ever were closed, both of these being 24-hour restaurants.  Lil' Joe's became a laundromat, and Murrell's was demolished.

However, like a phoenix rising from the gravy-stained and coffee-drenched ashes of Murrell's, the newest Whataburger in town has opened where the legendary diner once stood.

This area of the country needs little told about the splendors of that chewy bun, diced onions, and fragrant mustard wrapped around a big 'ol pile of meat. Let's not even get into those flawless little cups of "Fancy Ketchup" that is made from fresh tomatoes and unicorn tears.

Can you imagine someone who has never had the Texas tradition that is Whataburger? Mel Tillis would be so upset. (That's an "old person" joke. He used to do their commercials...but that's a separate post.)

Check out this video of the Ultimate Whataburger Taste Test.  Then meet me at the Whata-Murrell's for a cup of gravy and a straw!
