FX and Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain will cap off its run after the coming fourth season, and things are looking pretty bleak for New York and the world at large. Don’t take our word for it, though, as new promos for the final Strain see Corey Stoll’s Eph in a bombed-out, vampire-run vision of the future.

Ahead of its July 16 premiere (hey, not everyone watches Game of Thrones), FX released a series of new promos for The Strain Season 4, including our first check-in with Eph. Not only are the skies over New York yellow-ish and irradiated enough to allow Strigoi to walk the streets, but those armbands humans wear have an awfully bleak connotation.

As if that weren’t depressing enough, here’s what “The Partnership” is up to:

So reads the Season 4 synopsis:

As the fourth and final season begins, nine months have passed. The world has fallen into darkness, and the strigoi are in control. The explosion at the end of season three triggered a global nuclear apocalypse. The resulting nuclear winter liberated the strigoi, allowing them to move about during daytime, and allowing the Master to establish a totalitarian regime. Preying on the fears of the populace, the Master and his minions have created an unsettling alliance in “The Partnership.” The majority of humans are now working for the strigoi, operating with a single understanding – collaborate or die. With the world in disarray and our heroes disbanded, each of them will have to overcome personal hardship and defy death for even the smallest chance at fighting back… All the while, the Master reigns supreme, furthering his scheme for the end of the world as we know it. In the face of annihilation…do our heroes have what it takes to save humankind?

Elsewhere, Season 4 of The Strain will feature Pixels star Jocelyn Hudon as Abby, Jess Salgueiro as “glamorous and tough young lady” Rosalinda and K.C. Collins as Roman, who helps the main characters in their fight for survival.

FX’s The Strain will come forth with a full Season 4 trailer soon, so prepare for the end this coming July.
