The Return of The Darkness [AUDIO, VIDEO]

After exploding on the music world in 2003 with “Permission to Land” and the single “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”, The Darkness were poised to become ‘the next big thing’.

Between 2003 and 2006, The Darkness scored three Brit Awards,  an Ivor Novello in 2004 for “Songwriters Of The Year”,  four Kerrang! Awards, two Metal Hammer Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, and were named  “Most Stylish Band” in 2004 by Elle Style.

Their second effort, “One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back”, was released in November 2005 to mixed reviews, and attendence at their live shows dwindled considerably.  A year later, after a stint in rehab, singer Justin Hawkins left the band, and all appeared to be over for The Darkness.

Fast forward five years to March 2011 -  The Darkness officially announced that they would reunite with all of the original members, play at the 2011 Download Festival in June,  and record a new album during April and May.  Things fell together more quickly than they anticipated,  and in a January 2012 interview, Justin Hawkins said that that the band had almost completed recording their third album, with nine songs “done or finished, all sounding shiny and good.”

When they introduced their first new music in seven years,  “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us,” early this year, they didn’t stop at a cartoon video involving power-pop flamingos, Stonehenge sorcerers, and a boxer-turned-soloist whose arms and legs are all guitars. Justin Hawkins and his bandmates also appeared in a Super Bowl commercial in front of 100 million people.  Not a bad comeback.

The comeback concludes on August 21, when they’ll release their third studio album, “Hot Cakes”. Check out the new single “Everybody Have a Good Time” here:
