After weeks of taunting us with the promise of a new track from the upcoming album King Animal, Soundgarden has finally come through.

Chris Cornell says that the first 15 songs Soundgarden ever wrote were preserved on cassette tape. Though the recordings have never been made public, their mere existence may be enough to get fans excited about the possibility of hearing them someday.

Veteran grunge rockers Soundgarden have been busy on the festival circuit since they re-formed in 2010 after more than a decade on hiatus, and now they can add another fest to their schedule. The band will headline the opening night of the three-day Hard Rock Calling event in London in July.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell recently weighed in on the “rock is dead” argument, opened up about his own experiences with drug abuse and marvels at how 70′s rockers could “be completely f—ed up all the time and still function.”

Although he's back to melting faces with the reunited Soundgarden, one of Chris Cornell's not-so-guilty pleasures has been playing acoustic shows. Earlier this year, Cornell went out on tour to bring that acoustic experience to fans, playing a mix of solo material, Soundgarden and Audioslave tracks, and assorted covers.

After a short reunion tour earlier this year, and a few scattered one-off shows, Soundgarden finally delivered the news we've been waiting for - Yes, they are recording a new studio album that should, in theory, drop sometime early next year.
