Celebrities really are just like us — well, Ryan Reynolds is, anyway. Like you, he also wants to see Deadpool and Wolverine reunite on the big screen, this time for a much better film. It took several years, but the tenacious actor’s commitment to getting a proper Deadpool movie off the ground finally paid off (in a huge way), which has Reynolds thinking that maybe it’s time for the Merc With the Mouth and Old Man Logan to get the band back together.

With Deadpool, Reynolds and director Tim Miller gave the character the film he deserved, effectively erasing that horrible version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine from our memory — you might even say that the Deadpool movie worked like a magic bullet. Speaking with EW, the actor, who was also recently named the magazine’s Entertainer of the Year, says he’d like to take it a step further and really rectify that whole X-Men Origins situation by putting Wolverine and Deadpool in another movie together.

There’s just one problem: Hugh Jackman is done playing Wolverine after Logan, which hits theaters next March. Says Reynolds:

I want Deapdool and Wolverine in a movie together. What we’re gonna have to do is convince Hugh. If anything, I’m going to need to do what I can to get my internet friends back on board to help rally another cause down the line.

Reynolds effectively rallied fans on social media to get behind Deadpool (that “leaked” test reel sealed the deal with Fox execs), and it probably wouldn’t take much for him to do the same for a Deadpool / Wolverine movie — and given the success of both characters, Fox would endorse the hell out of this crossover in a heartbeat. Jackman, on the other hand, would need a whole lot more convincing, and I don’t think a bunch of fans on Twitter is going to do the trick.

For his part, Reynolds says Jackman “is one of the best human beings,” and explains that he doesn’t just want to make this crossover happen because they would (obviously) “light the screen on fire,” but because Jackman is just such a great guy. Aww.

Maybe after Jackman takes a nice little break from the X-Men universe and enjoys a few pizzas, Reynolds can make this dream a reality. Until then, he’s keeping busy enough with Deadpool 2, while recent reports revealed that Fox is already developing plans for Deadpool 3.
