Puff Reviews Marvel’s Secret Wars #1

Look, I'll be the first to admit I was skeptical about Marvel's Secret Wars. I thought maybe this was a cash grab being made in the wake of a ton of successful movies and I figured this was going to be a crappy story line. But, like most things in life, I was horribly mistaken. 

Secret Wars is being written by Jonathon Hickman (the guy behind one of my favorite independent books the Manhattan Projects and the most recent Avengers run) and is just BRILLIANTLY done! A lot of Marvel's recent event story lines have failed miserably, but after Secret Wars 1, I'm in 100%!

I don't want to ruin any of the plot points, but the open sequence where the Ultimate Universe and the regular universe collide is absolutely phenomenal. Aside from the action, you quickly become emotionally attached to the story line and characters.

There are some moments of levity with Rocket Raccoon and some other characters, but don't overall this is a VERY heavy story with tons of death and destruction.

With all that said, I don't know how Secret Wars will turn out, but after issue number 1, I can't WAIT to get the next issue! Go pick it up at Excalibur Comics TODAY!
