New Louisiana Residents Can Now Hunt and Fish Sooner
New residents of Louisiana can unpack their hunting and fishing supplies a little bit sooner – new arrivals now only have to wait six months before purchasing their recreational hunting or fishing license.
This is because Governor Bobby Jindal recently signed a measure into law that shortens the lengths of time Louisiana residents have to wait before obtaining a hunting and fishing license. The law goes into effect on August 1.
“We hope more new residents will purchase their resident recreational hunting and fishing licenses sooner as the result of this legislation,” said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham. “There will no longer be a need to wait a full year to enjoy the state’s fish and game opportunities as a resident license holder.
Previously, a new resident was forced to wait one year before being considered a “bona fide resident” by the state.
