Of all the bands that emerged from the Nu Metal era of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Linkin Park stands head and shoulders above the rest.  LP is the best-selling band of the 21st century having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

In May of this year Linkin Park released its 7th album, One More Light.  Two months later the band and its legion of fans were crushed by the news that lead singer Chester Bennington had committed suicide at his home in Palos Verdes, California.  The band immediately cancelled its upcoming concert dates, and just this week cancelled its planned Japanese tour.  They will perform together for the first time at the sold-out Chester Bennington tribute concert on October 27th at the Hollywood Bowl.  Beyond that, the band has not publicly stated their plans for the future.

It is certainly not unprecedented for successful bands to replace lead singers.  Ronnie James Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne as the lead singer of Black Sabbath.  Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth as the singer for Van Halen.  Ironically, Chester Bennington once replaced Scott Weiland as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots.  Some fans of the bands approved of the changes, some did not.

So, with regards to Linkin Park, we decided to poll their fans right here in Shreveport/Bossier to find out if they think the band should replace Chester Bennington with a new lead singer, or if they should just pack it in.  The results so far?  As one would expect, mixed; however, a slight majority believe that Linkin Park should continue on with a new lead singer.

There are a lot of great responses to our poll check out some of the responses below.

If you’d like to respond to our poll, you can do it right now on Facebook.  Time will tell if Linkin Park carries on, but whatever they decide to do, they’ve already created an incredible body of work that you can still enjoy, and which you can hear every day on 99X.
