Louisiana Kids On More Speed Than Others Across the Nation

Louisiana children are on more speed than other kids across the United States. Recent reports indicate that over the past decade, the children of Louisiana have experienced a significant spike in attention deficit disorders, and have been given methamphetamine like substances in an attempt to control their behavior.

Nearly 10 percent of Louisiana children between the ages of 4 and 17 are strung out on powerful drugs like Adderall, Ritalin and Vyvanse to combat ADHD, according to The Advocate. However, while many of these kids do experience trouble at school and increased rates of juvenile delinquency, many experts are concerned that children are simply being medicated just for being kids.

There is also speculation that there are now more children being prescribed amphetamine drugs to control their ADHD simply because their parents want easy access to prescription speed. While these drugs can produce calm and catatonic effects in hyperactive children, they can provide adults with hours of full throttle fun.

Perhaps that is the reason why nearly 16 percent of the children in Louisiana have been diagnosed with ADHD – five percent above the national average.
