There are opportunities in life to a make a bad situation a little better by simply rolling with the punches and doing your best to show those in charge of your fate a little humility. Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way right now – this story is not about that, but more along the lines of drunken idiocy and maybe even a little sodomy.

Over the weekend, an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputy responded to a call about an intoxicated man who had just left an establishment in his truck. When the deputy caught up with the driver, he found 48-year-old Ellis Wilson Jr. sitting in the driver's seat, attempting to hot rod his vehicle out of some mud.

The deputy said he could smell booze on Wilson as soon as he approached the vehicle. "[Wilson] could barely stand up and [I] was unable to understand what [he] was saying," according to the deputy’s report. “...he would only say his truck was stuck and then began to mumble incoherently."

After Wilson refused several times to submit to a field sobriety test, he was arrested and automatically charged with DUI. However, the situation did not reveal itself as too out of the ordinary for the arresting officer until after he took Wilson to the Louisiana State University Police Department for a second chance at the Breathalyzer -- which Wilson took.

Upon finishing the test, Wilson told the deputy that he was HIV positive, which freaked the officer out because the two men apparently engaged in anal sex? While that aspect of the story is not a fact, how else can you explain the deputy’s thought process on why he may have been exposed to AIDS?

“A person gets HIV when an infected person's body fluids (blood, semen, fluids from the vagina or breast milk) enter his or her bloodstream. The virus can enter the blood through linings in the mouth, anus, or sex organs (the penis and vagina), or through broken skin,” according to WebMD.

No mention of administering Breathalyzers as a cause of the disease, but the officer still found it necessary to charge Wilson with intentionally exposing a police officer to AIDS.
