While most might not realize just how long the construction has been going on for the I-220/I-20 Barksdale Air Force Base Interchange Access Project in east Bossier and Bossier Parish, it's been a while.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development,

On May 15, 2019, Governor John Bel Edwards joined Dept. of Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. and numerous state and local officials in breaking ground on the I-220/I-20 Barksdale Air Force Base Interchange Project in Bossier City. The $71.8 million project will create a new access road into BAFB extending southward from the existing I-20/I-220 interchange.

The work has been going on for over three years now.  Of course, time stood still during the height of the pandemic, so construction crews get some type of "pass" on that, but for a job that was supposed to have ended in late 2021, it would appear there is still a lot of work left to do.

More Work Is Scheduled For This Weekend Making Another Closure Necessary

More of that work is scheduled to take place this weekend and the DOTD has advised that in order to get that work done, it will be necessary again to close I-20 west bound for a full six miles in Bossier Parish.
