Update: The Bottle Rock Festival has announced its 2017 lineup, and Foo Fighters are one of the headliners for the May 26-28 event, alongside Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Maroon 5. See the full lineup for the California event and get ticketing details at the festival's website.

Foo Fighters were largely absent from the rock landscape in 2016, taking a well deserved break after an exhaustive world tour and support of both 2014's Sonic Highways album and the late 2015 St. Cecilia EP. But the band has started working on their return, utilizing a passport-themed website to announce new shows. Up until now, the passport has been stamped with European cities, but in a new tweet, the group has signified that U.S. show announcement is coming.

The tweet shows the U.S. portion of the map with a red dot appearing along the coast of middle California. Given that the Bay Area has numerous festivals, this could be anything from Outside Lands to Treasure Island to the Bottle Rock Festival or simply a stand-alone performance in the Bay Area. See the tweet below.

The most prominent speculation is that the band will be one of the headliners for the Bottle Rock Festival, which takes place in Napa Valley each year. An announcement on this year's participants is coming this week, so the timing of the Foo Fighters passport posting lines up. If that's the case, the festival is set for the week of May 26-28, which also aligns within close enough proximity to when some of the band's already scheduled dates overseas are taking place.

Will there be more Foo Fighters U.S. shows this year? It's likely, but the band may continue to roll it out slowly as they fill in their festival commitments for the year. Stay tuned and see where the band will turn up in 2017.
