The 'Expendables' franchise is built entirely on the idea that watching a whole bunch of movie stars (from former legends to C-listers) kill a whole bunch of people will make for a good time at the movies. Franchise star and chief creative voice Sylvester Stallone has promised that 'The Expendables 3' will up the ante in every way and the news that Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich are in talks to join the cast has us believing him.

Although Stallone has actively talked about recruiting Snipes, Chan and Cage before (usually on his Twitter feed), the news that Jovovich could be joining the macho ensemble is a nice surprise. After all, there are plenty of male B-movie stars in this franchise, so it was about time that they recruited a female B-movie star. All of Stallone's previous Twitter musings seem to have come to fruition, as Deadline reports that all the above are currently in "advanced negotiations" to join the film.

It's easy to imagine most of these folks sliding right into the series with no problem. Snipes is a perfect fit for a growly badass, Cage will surely be at his craziest (as a villain, perhaps?) and Jovovich will be a nice change of pace from all of the grizzled muscle men. The only one who really doesn't seem to fit is Chan, who has always been more of a "Buster Keaton with martial arts" type rather than an action star. Wouldn't he feel out of place in a film that's built entirely on a foundation of corpses?

'The Expendables 3' will be directed by Patrick Hughes. It doesn't have a release date, but mid-to-late 2014 sounds reasonable.
