Bossier Churches Hit By Phishing Scam
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an online phishing scam that attempted to take money from several local churches. Authorities say the scammers emailed the churches, posing as preachers from the Houston area, asking for a wire transfer of funds totaling 20 Thousand Dollars.
Officers believe the scammers are using malware to generate email addresses similar to actual people the victims’ know.
While none of the churches fell for the scheme, detectives warn residents and businesses to be wary so they don’t fall prey to a similar scam.
If you feel like you may have the victim of a scam or crime, report them to the Bossier Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-2203.
