Summer is upon us. Which means it is time to get outside, do some grilling, hang with friends, and enjoy ourselves. While you are chilling on the patio or poolside this summer, you need a good stiff drink. Sometimes beer just won't do and you don't want the Appletini your old lady makes for her friends. So, here are some of the best manly cocktails to enjoy this summer.

SCOTCH SHREDDER

Ingredients:

  • 1½ Scotch (I use Johnny Walker Red, but any Scotch will do)
  • 3 oz pineapple juice

How to prepare it: Pour Scotch and pineapple juice into a highball glass filled with ice.

TOM COLLINS

It's a classic and it is still damn good!

Ingredients:

  • 1¼ oz Gin (I prefer Tanqueray)
  • 1 oz lemon juice or lime juice
  • 1 tsp sweet and sour mix
  • 1 splash club soda
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • 1 slice orange

How to prepare it: Build the gin, juice, and sweet and sour mix in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Add club soda to mix and garnish with the maraschino cherry and orange slice.

MOSCOW MULE

Ingredients:

  • 1½ oz Vodka
  • 3 oz ginger beer
  • 1 tsp sugar syrup
  • ¼ oz lime juice
  • 1 sprig mint
  • 1 slice lime


How to prepare it:
Fill a highball glass with ice. In a steel mixer half-filled with ice, shake  vodka, sugar syrup and lime juice. Pour into the glass and top with ginger beer. Add the mint sprig and lime slice for garnish.

DEATH IN THE AFTERNOON

Ingredients:

  • Champagne of choice
  • 2 oz of Absinthe

How to prepare it: Pour one jigger absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced Champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness.

Backyard Barbecue Michelada

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
    1.5 oz. Black Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky
    .5 oz. White Grapefruit Juice
    .5 oz. Honey Syrup
    .25 oz. Claussen Dill Pickle Brine
    1/4 Tsp. Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard

How to prepare it: Add everything but the beer to a mixing glass. Fine strain (to remove mustard seeds) into a chilled black pepper rimmed pilsner glass filled with ice. Fill glass with beer. Garnish with a Claussen Dill Pickle Spear.

HELLFIRE

Ingredients:

  • 1 part Sailor Jerry Rum
  • 2 dashes Tabasco sauce
  • 1/4 of a fresh lime
  • 1 part ginger beer
  • Pilsner beer or favorite lager beer

How to prepare it: Squeeze quarter of a lime into beer glass and fill with ice. Add Tabasco, Sailor Jerry and ginger beer.
