Avenged Sevenfold Reveal ‘Hail to the King’ Animated Series + Mobile Game Trailer

Avenged Sevenfold have just released their ‘Hail to the King’ animated series along with a trailer for the band’s ‘Hail to the King: Deathbat’ mobile video game. The cartoon series consists of six episodes animated by ‘Metalocalypse’ director and co-producer Jon Schnepp, while the mobile video game emulates the classic “beat ‘em up” style of classic console games.

Avenged Sevenfold’s 2013 full-length album is the basis for both the animated series and video game. The band’s ‘Hail to the King’ cartoon is a ‘Lord of the Rings’-like creation. Much like ‘Lord of the Rings,’ it revolves around a talisman, but in Avenged Sevenfold’s case, instead of a ring, the item is an amulet sporting the band’s “death bat” logo. The series even features a Gollum-like character and Princess Leia of ‘Star Wars’ fame.

The ‘Hail to the King: Deathbat’ video game is much different stylistically, but is connected to the animated series. “The series also plays as a backstory to our mobile game ‘Hail to the King: Deathbat.’ We felt this was the best way to tell the story and give you all an idea about the type of game we are creating,” says Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows.

The singer continues, “Two years ago while touring in South East Asia I looked around the bus taking us from the airport to the hotel and noticed everyone was on their phones and iPads playing different types of games. We had a discussion and decided that it would be fun to create one of our own. The problem was that we didn’t feel passionate about doing a full on typical music game. We wanted to do something different. Something inspired by some of our favorite games. So we came up with the idea of turning some of our songs and art work into a living, breathing, evil world.”

The official trailer for ‘Hail to the King: Deathbat’ is up for your viewing pleasure right now and the game is expected for an early 2014 release. Check out the ‘Hail to the King’ animated series above (each episode plays one after another) and the ‘Deathbat’ game trailer below.
