ATF Raids Home of Popular YouTube User ‘FPSRussia’ Seeking Guns, Explosives

Though he employs a fake Russian accent for the popular guns and explosives videos he uploads to YouTube, Kyle Myers (AKA FPSRussia) was on the receiving end of some very real and especially unwanted attention this week.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives carried out a raid on properties owned by Myers and his family on Tuesday.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that ATF agents raided Myers’ home in Royston, Ga. A farm belonging to Myers’ father Lamar was also raided. Unsurprisingly, the raids had little to do with the insane numbers of weapons fired off by Myers in the dozens of videos he’s uploaded to YouTube, but rather his use of explosives.

According to ATF spokesman Richard Coes, Myers does not hold the federal explosives manufacturing license required by law to engage in the manufacturing of explosives for sale, distribution or business. Myers regularly uses tannerite in his videos to blow things up.

It’s still unclear if the ATF actually seized anything during the raids, though no arrests have been made. “The idea at one of the locations was to take firearms, but they did not do that,” Coes said.

The FPSRussia YouTube channel, which boasts nearly 4 million subscribers, a total view count of more than 522 million and membership in the YouTube Partner Program, is one of the site’s most popular channels.

Kitty Wandel, producer of Myer’s YouTube videos, told weapon hobbyist website Guns that she was the only one present from the FPSRussia group during the time of the raid.

“Both Keith [Ratliff] (ed: Myers’ former business partner who was found dead from a gunshot wound in January) and Kyle were sticklers for obeying the laws and would not knowingly break any. It is very common for people to use Tannerite in media both on TV and on YouTube,” said Wandel. “If it ever came to doing something outside of our legal boundaries, we would then work with someone who was legally authorized to do it in an approved location.”
