Woodlawn High School Employee Suspected of Theft of School Funds

A Woodlawn High School office worker has been placed on leave after accusations surfaced about missing money at the school

Caddo Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree released this statement about the incident:

Recently, parents notified Woodlawn principal Betty Jordan of concerns regarding a an office staff member at the campus inappropriately dating receipts. Jordan notified the district’s Internal Auditing Department which immediately began an investigation to determine the cause of the discrepancies. Over the course of the investigation, which began on Feb. 26, approximately $2,100 in school funds were found to be missing. Also on Feb. 26, the employee was brought to the Human Resources Department and met with staff members who placed the individual on administrative leave with pay — a standard procedure in accordance with Caddo Parish School Board policy while investigations are underway. Once the investigation concludes, the results will be turned over to Human Resources for any actions according to Board policy and state law.

We caught up with Dr. Goree to talk about the flooding and the investigation at Woodlawn.

Dr. Goree adds that his office has been in contact with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Financial Crimes Unit. He adds that results of the district’s internal investigation will also be turned over to the Financial Crimes Unit for possible criminal charges.

He also sent this statement to members of the media:

As superintendent, I am thankful for the diligent efforts of our staff who worked to follow due process during the course of this investigation as well as law enforcement for their help along the way,” Goree said. “Unfortunately, in recent days there have been a number of mistruths and inaccuracies reported regarding this case; however, I am proud of the work of our staff who followed the letter of the law in ensuring this the integrity of this investigation.
