In a year where there is a very hotly contested Presidential race, you'd expect there would be a lot of voter interest instead of apathy. Your expectations are right on target.

Parish clerks from across Louisiana are reporting that voter turnout was very high for the first day of early voting for the November 8th election.

For some voters, their minds are made up and they want to make sure their voice is heard. For others casting a ballot on the first day of early voting, it was all about beating the crowd.

Yes, it was kind of rough. As a matter of fact, we showed up yesterday on the wrong day, and so we came back today,

That's  right, Kathleen Gendusa was so eager to  cast her ballot she and her  husband showed up at their polling place a day early.

Another reason voters might be casting votes early is the recent flooding. Carla Schiavone told the Louisiana Radio Network,

I came out today because I am currently displaced from my home. It flooded back in August. It just happened to be a day that I was in Baton Rouge, and since I’m living two hours away, I figured I would just come on in and get it done.

Early voting will continue until the November 1 from 8:30 AM until 6 PM every day. The only exception is the polls will be closed on Sunday. Those who plan to early vote can expect a wait of 15 to 20 minutes during peak times. Our suggestion is to take a look at the ballot for your area. Make sure you have a good understanding of the Constitutional Amendments that are on the ballot and then vote your conscience.
