Let's play tourist in our own backyard!

Who says you can't "visit" your own city. We hopped on TripAdvisor.com to find the top 10 things you can do right here in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was really interesting to see what other people find fun in our city and also discover new activities for us to try.

This list may come in handy this summer, especially when you've got the kids to entertain.

Here's Trip Advisor's Top 10 list of things to do in Shreveport based on reviews.

10. Cathedral of St. John Berchmans - This church is absolutely stunning. Constructed some 80 years ago it offers breathtaking views and maybe even the perfect place to tie the knot with your sweetheart.

9. Shreveport Convention Center - Used for hundreds of events each year, the Shreveport Convention Center is also a hot place to stay in Shreveport according to some of these reviews. I personally find the massive escalator that spans three floors to be superb entertainment. Don't forget we've got Geek'd Con coming up August 19-21 at the Convention Center.

8. Splash Kingdom Waterpark - Ah, yes. The perfect place to cool down this summer is Splash Kingdom Waterpark. It was recently voted one of the top waterparks in the state!

7. Sam's Town Casino - There are plenty of places to gamble in Shreveport-Bossier City but Sam's Town got a special nod on Trip Advisor, mostly by those who have won. Many call it their vacation stop.

6. Barksdale Global Power Museum - I can vouch for this one... It's fabulous! I enjoyed it thoroughly when I first moved here a few years ago and since then it has received a major renovation. It is an incredible look at the history of Barksdale and one of the biggest days to impact our nation, 9/11. While there, I learned that Barksdale is where President Bush was flown to after the attacks on that day. They have a complete replica of the room where he first addressed the nation on that day. It's awe inspiring.

5. Shreveport Water Works Museum - Described as underrated, this museum is a slice of history regarding the water we drink today. It's loaded with machinery that was used until around the 1980s. I'm sure the kiddos would love this.

4. Louisiana State Exhibit Museum - This is a free museum that is truly one of a kind. It's all of the history of Louisiana contained in one building. I bet even those who have lived their entire lives here would learn something new.

3. Eldorado Resort Casino Shreveport - I enjoy the Celebrity Lounge for a night of live music and dancing, but Eldorado has plenty to offer.

2. Sci-Port - I have been told by countless people that Sci-Port is a ton of fun. Yes, this is mostly said in regards to children, but I consider myself one big kid. One guest went so far as to say that it is one of the "top ten hands-on science centers in the country."

1. R.W. Norton Art Gallery - My first visit to Norton Art Gallery was for a whiskey tasting.... I know, so fun. I was floored at how beautiful it was. I had no idea that this even existed in Shreveport. There is art eye candy everywhere throughout the gallery. The lawn is also a fabulous place for events like Derby Day.
