The headline might not be completely accurate. But on this day 20 years ago, the movie Batman Forever was released.

I was a kid, right in the wheelhouse for this release. I loved Jim Carrey based on his 'Ace Ventura' movies, I was excited to see Robin in a movie, they had bitchin' McDonald's promotions...it was all perfect for my child-sized brain.

The movie was also pretty perfect for a child. Bright colors (a huge contrast from the previous Tim Burton Batman movies), shallow plot, over zealous fight scenes...very kid friendly. I remembered the movie as being one of the best movies from my childhood. However, I re-watched it just a few months ago, and as an adult, this one was tough.

I get that the movie did VERY well in the box office, and kept the franchise alive, but it was the first movie in the decline. The 'Batman & Robin' movie that followed destroyed what had been built, and required a full reboot years later with "Batman Begins".

This movie will always be one of my favorites, mostly out of nostalgia...but that's me. History will probably not be as kind an my memories, history will view this as the first time someone tried to kill Batman.
