The Target December data breach has affected 70 million customers, according to Target.

Target stated in a news release today that their investigation has determined names, mailing addresses, email addresses, or phone numbers of 70 million people.  The corporation also noted this is in addition to the credit card information that was stolen in the security breach.

Target said it will attempt to contact affected customers in the breach, however they will not be asking for personal information from customers.

“I know that it is frustrating for our guests to learn that this information was taken and we are truly sorry they are having to endure this,” said Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Target in the release. “I also want our guests to know that understanding and sharing the facts related to this incident is important to me and the entire Target team.”

Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all guests who shopped their U.S. stores.  Customers have three months to sign up for the service.

The department store has more information about the data breach on their website as well as another page for frequently asked questions about the breach.
