Selfies have become huge part of pop culture. However, there's a time and a place for taking self portraits on a smart phone. Snapping one with a man threatening to leap from the Brooklyn Bridge in the background is the exact opposite of a photo op.
After a yearly increase in usage of 17,000 percent, "selfie" was crowned 2013's Word of the Year by Oxford Dictionaries, following last year's winner "gif" and beating out the Miley Cyrus-endorsed "twerk," among others.
