Metallica Looking to Record Next Album with Rick Rubin

Following Metallica’s less-than-popular collaboration with Lou Reed last year, the metal gents are ready to get back into the studio and craft a proper Metallica set. Speaking with Metal Hammer (via Blabbermouth), frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich hinted that the next Metallica album will be another one with producer Rick Rubin in tow.

Lulu. Until six months ago, that word made me think of a round-eyed cartoon character that polluted comic sections in WWII era newspapers. Or that singer from the 60s. Now when I hear 'Lulu', I cringe. Damn you Metallica and Lou Reed!

So we have probably all heard that Puff hates the new Lou Reed/Metallica album. He isn’t alone. Seems as though this music store has either has no intention of selling “Lulu” CDs, or they are just doing their part to prevent returns.

Aside from their shared love of the color black, Lou Reed and Metallica don’t have much in common – Metallica are heavy metal heroes, and Reed is the unofficial poet laureate of New York. Despite the differences, the band and Reed have announced yesterday they’ve recorded an album together.

Reed told Ultimate Classic Rock all it took was one concert to bring them together.

A 25th anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance in 2009 found Metallica backing up Reed for a couple of songs. “We knew from then,” Reed told David Fricke of Rolling Stone, who broke the news, “that we were made for each other.”
