Our good buddies in Kyng have been having a PHENOMENAL year! Their new album 'Burn the Serum' is absolutely amazing. They've played all the major music festivals this year. Its been a great run for these guys. And, at Rocklahoma this year, they were given an awesome opportunity to play 'Bury Me In Smoke' with Phil Anselmo and DOWN! Absolutely awesome. Check out the footage here!
When it comes to rock bands with local connections, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have that conversation without mentioning Pantera. A lot of the band's major milestones took place right here in Shreveport at Circle in the Square. This is where the band hooked up with Phil Anselmo. Phil played his first ever gig with Vinnie, Dimebag, and the boys here. The history is rich and deep. And now, for the first time ever, we are going to get the full story straight from Phil when he releases his new autobiography called 'Mouth For War: Pantera and Beyond'.
Yesterday, Phil Anselmo and Down released their first taste of their up coming EP 'Down IV Part II' called "We Knew Him Well". And, as most of you know, Shreveport and Phil Anselmo have history that goes way back in the day to his first band Razor White and his first gig ever with Pantera. So, I got to thinking about what some of my favorite Phil Anselmo tunes are. He's been in so many killer bands including Pantera, Down, SuperJoint Ritual, and more. So, I put together a playlist of some of my favorite tunes. Let me know what you think and feel free to share of your Phil memories from the past 30 years.
In January, Phil Anselmo came back to Shreveport - where his legendary career with Pantera began - with his latest side project, The Illegals. One question I kept hearing people ask was "When can we expect some new music from
"Walk Through Exits Only" is eight of the hardest, heaviest, most brutal songs you'll ever hear coming out of a set of speakers -- just what we'd expect from the Godfather of American Metal. And soon, Shreveport will get to hear it live.
Phil Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film Festival is upon us! The Austin, Texas, music and horror film festival will open its doors on Oct. 24 and will not relent until Oct. 27. The fest is truly unique in its personality, and during Phil Anselmo's recent visit to our studios, the man behind the idea revealed everything we should look forward to from the fest.
Kirk Windstein, who has been a member of Down, Crowbar and Kingdom of Sorrow, has apparently stepped away from Down to focus on Crowbar. He's the vocalist and also plays guitar for Crowbar, whose last album was 2011's 'Sever the Wicked Hand.'
What can you say about Phil Anselmo that hasn't been said before? Whether you love him or hate him, Phil is far beyond driven. He has been a part of some of the most legendary bands in metal -- Pantera, Down, and SuperJoint Ritual just to name a few. And now, for the first time in his career, he's released a solo album. Billed as Phillip H. Anselmo and the Illegals, the debut record is called "Walk Through Exits Only."
