The Deadpool Effect is now officially a thing. As many predicted and suspected following Deadpool’s surprising success at the box office this past weekend, movie studios would try to capitalize on the success of that film by making their superhero movies R-rated (ignoring the fact that that was just a very small part of why Deadpool was successful). Just this morning we brought you the news that the X-Force movie could be rated R and now comes word that Hugh Jackman’s still untitled final Wolverine movie (Wolverine 3? The Wolverine 2?) is being planned as an R-rated film.

Just a few days after Deadpool’s record-breaking haul at the box-office (the biggest opening for a film released in February, the biggest opening for an R-rated film, the biggest opening weekend in 20th Century Fox history and the biggest opening of any X-Men film), studios are already adapting to the massive success of an R-rated superhero film and adjusting accordingly. X-Men and Deadpool producer Simon Kinberg has said that while he doesn’t see the X-Men universe changing much after Deadpool’s success, he said he could definitely see another mutant-oriented superhero film getting an R-rating.

Early tracking for Fox's Deadpool solo film suggested that Tim Miller's profanity and violence-laden superhero outing would bring in around $65 million. That number inflated over the past week, and thanks to a strong preview night on Thursday, February 11, the estimate for the risky action film ballooned to $135 million — and that's precisely how much Deadpool made in its first three days in theaters, shattering a few box office records along the way.

Tim Miller’s R-rated adaptation of the beloved, foul-mouthed superhero was on track to make $60 million at the box office this weekend, but Deadpool is now expected to top that estimate as it has already begun breaking box office records for February. The Merc With a Mouth’s first solo outing is primed for the biggest R-rated movie opening of all time, as well as the biggest opening for a film released in the month of February.

In news that should shock pretty much no one given the current state of superhero studio films, a Deadpool sequel is already in the works, with Fox reportedly giving the Merc With a Mouth’s follow-up the green light before his first solo outing even hits theaters. Box office tracking for the R-rated superhero film indicates that it’s going to perform pretty well, and early word-of-mouth from promotional screenings has been fairly positive (though the film is far more divisive among critics).

If you thought Ryan Reynolds was fun to look at in his Super Bowl commercial, just wait until you see him in his latest movie Deadpool.

If you’re one of the people who went to see an early promo screening of Deadpool, then you already know that the R-rated superhero outing has one post-credits scene. And if you were disappointed by said scene, then maybe this news will inspire you to run out and see the film again when it hits theaters next weekend (unless you didn’t particularly like it the first time around).

The marketing geniuses behind Deadpool have been taking some unconventional tactics: there was that hilarious poop emoji billboard, and the billboards / posters promoting the film as a Valentine’s Day romance, and now the Merc With a Mouth wants you to get handsy with yourself, promoting a little self-love with some new PSAs about cancer awareness — for him and her!

Following in the footsteps of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Deadpool is another wildly profane and gleefully violent film hitting theaters in February, hoping to attract a very similar audience. And as this new clip proves, the Merc With a Mouth’s solo outing has something else in common with Kingsman: a female lead who makes a joke about anal. Out of context, it’s hard to tell if this joke succeeds as planned, but this brief scene does show off some of the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin.
