beware of darkness

Kyle Nicolaides is no stranger to performing solo. He's been performing since he was in high school, sometimes with a band...sometimes on his own. Either way, he quickly made a name for himself as the little guy with the big voice and the dizzying guitar chops, a curious mix of humble banter and sonic swagger...

That sound you hear is a sigh of relief.  A sigh of relief from parents worried that their offspring were doomed to fall into the lure of the pop music dreck of Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber. We've seen Ohio music teacher Aaron O'Keefe's students absolutely kill on covers of tunes by Tool, Pantera, Ozzy, and others...

If you were fortunate enough to see Beware of Darkness (all eight of you) when they played the Warehouse last year, you know how amazing this band is live! I was lucky enough to draw the straw, and had the opportunity to host them in the 99X studio for an interview and a short acoustic set. This time, the band played a markedly different venue: a trolley car in San Diego.

Beware of Darkness. Are they named after the Spock's Beard album or the George Harrison song? Or none of the above? I have no idea, as information on the band seems to be as rare as Lindsay Lohan sobriety chips. What I can tell you is that the band was formed in L.A. by singer/guitarist Kyle Nicolaides and drummer Tony Cupito in 2010.
