Some of Shreveport's low-income neighborhoods will receive funding for improvements after the city was awarded one of the largest HUD grants in the nation.

A $1 million grant from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was presented to The City Of Shreveport to help the Allendale, Ledbetter Heights, and West Edge neighborhoods.

HUD’s Choice Neighborhoods initiative promotes a comprehensive approach to transforming low-income and struggling communities. Shreveport was one of 64 applications submitted for the grant. Only 10 cities across the nation will receive the grants totaling $8 million.

Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler is extremely pleased to get the grant for the city, and she praised her staff for their hard work in obtaining the award.

Our staff works diligently to address the needs of all the citizens in Shreveport. Many of our citizens live in distressed communities where there is little hope of finding affordable housing for their families. This grant will make a tremendous difference in addressing some of those challenges. I want to thank U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy for notifying me about the award and I also thank the other members of our U.S. Congressional Delegation for their support.

Shreveport received one of the second highest amounts awarded and was the only city in the state of Louisiana selected for this funding. Bonnie Moore, Director of Community Development for the City of Shreveport, will oversee the disbursement of the funds.
