Rock Feuds – Our Top 5 [VIDEOS]

Rock bands have their ups and downs. Most start out as kids that grow up together and are thrown into a lifestyle that most would kill for: fame, money, drugs and more women than an Arab sheik would know what to do with. Egos get out of control and bands break up or bands beef with other bands. Not surprising when you consider that rock music is meant to be a channel for raw emotion. Things are bound to get a little 'effed up along the way. Through out the history of rock there have been feuds between bands and of course band members. There are far too many to list here, but these are our Top 5 Rock Feuds. Whose side are you on?

Tommy Lee vs Kid Rock

The feud between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock started the same way rivalries have between men for the past million or so years; the fairer sex. Or in this case Pamela Anderson.  Tommy Lee and Kid Rock were both at one point married to the Baywatch Eye Candy, but in 2007 after only two months after divorcing Kid, he found out that Pam was hooking back up with her first husband Tommy Lee. It all came to a head at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards when Kid Rock straight up bitch slapped and cold-cocked the Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee before he could even get a shot in.  No charges were brought against Kid and the feud seems to have died down, but I don't see these guys getting all chummy any time soon.

In his 1998 autobiography "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" Marilyn Manson called Trent Reznor "the brother I never had." In 2009, Reznor calls Manson a "dopey clown." So, what happened? Manson lost out to the Lost Highway soundtrack to Reznor back in 1997. There was a brief reconciliation in 2000, when Manson made a surprise appearance at a NIN show for a rousing performance of "Starf*&$kers, Inc." for which he also co-directed and appeared in the video for.

Happy times didn't last long hence the "dopey clown" remark, and Mason's substance abuse seems to be the cause for the split between the once "brothers." Skip to January 2011, in a New York Times interview Reznor was asked if he would ever work with his former protege again. He answered that he's open to anything and that his former protege “is a talented person” and that “we’ve had our problems, but I wear suits… I'm an adult now”

Axl Rose vs Slash

The feud between GnR's Axl Rose and Slash is well known and goes back way back to the early 90's during the Use Your Illusion Tour. Those were the days when GnR was at its hight and Axl Rose would freak out because of lax security or sound issues and just walk out of a show. Cue the riots. Serious drug abuse and egos surely were the leading factors to the demise of GnR. In 2010, Axl Rose filed a $20 million lawsuit against Guitar Hero III creators Activision for putting some Velvet Revolver songs in the game. Axl Rose even referred to Slash as a "cancer."  Some of these rivalries can be forgotten and we get a chance to see one of our favorite bands back together with the original lineup. Look at Black Sabbath for instance. But no, both Axl Rose and Slash have promised death before reunion.

Scott Stapp vs Fred Durst

Let's face it there aren't too many people out there that like either Scott Stapp or Fred Durst. Naturally, they have publicly revealed their hatred for each other. Back in 2000 during a New York's K-Rock festival (aptly titled Dysfunctional Family Picnic 4.0), Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit dissed Scott Stapp as follows: "I want to dedicate this next song to the lead singer of Creed.... That guy is an egomaniac.... He's an 'effing punk and he's backstage right now acting like 'effing Michael Jackson. 'Eff that mother'effer and 'eff you too. And if you want there's going to be a booth with pillows and blankets for when Creed comes on." Yeah, he's got some anger issues. All in "good fun" Stapp sends Durst an anger management book and it just goes down hill from there.

Dave Mustaine vs. Metallica

One of the longest feuds in rock has been among Metallica and Dave Mustaine. Before their debut album was even recorded back in 1983, the members of Metallica decided to oust Dave Mustaine because of his alcohol abuse and violent behavior and bring in Exodus guitarist, Kirk Hammet. Years and years go by and poor Dave Mustaine has to settle with his own bad ass metal band Megadeth. Feeling not good enough and resentment for having his riffs played by some new guy (the 3rd longest lasting member of the band) took a toll on poor Mustaine. It seemed that Mustaine was Metallica's best promoter, because not a single interview that I've ever read fails to mention Metallica. This long lasting feud seems to be fading away since the Big 4 tours, the possible supergroup of Metallica and Megadeth and finally Mustaine finally reveals his favorite Metallica song is "The Unforgiven."
