Tragic news for fans of former WWE diva and reality star Joanie Laurer, as the iconic “Chyna” has passed away at age 45. In the years since here tenure as “9th wonder of the world” wrestling star, the performer was also known for her reality TV appearances, public persona and more.

Laurer’s manager first confirmed the news to ProWrestlingSheet, though her Twitter and Facebook accounts confirmed the news late Wednesday. TMZ alleges that Laurer’s passing stems from a possible overdose, given pills at the scene in Redondo Beach, and Laurer’s history of addiction.

So reads Laurer’s Facebook:

It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.

Roberts first emerged on the WWE scene in 1997, drawing tremendous success as a wrestling icon until 2001, after which conflict with fellow WWE wrestler and executive Stephanie McMahon forced her out. Following her wrestling career (Laurer would return sporadically), the performer took a string of reality TV gigs from Fear Factor to The Surreal life, also later appearing on Celebrity Rehab, and shooting several pornographic films.

Most recently, she had spent several years in Japan teaching English. Best thoughts to the family, and all those remembering Joanie “Chyna” Laurer’s work.
