One YouTube user has uncovered and shared a rare Red Hot Chili Peppers demo recorded during Jane’s Addiciton guitarist Dave Navarro’s five-year tenure with the band.

“Circle of the Noose” was recorded during scrapped 1998 sessions for a follow-up to 1995’s One Hot Minute, the only RHCP album on which Navarro appeared. Navarro confirmed the song’s authenticity on Twitter, writing, “WOW what a trip down memory lane! Thanks.” According to NME, the Jane’s Addiction guitarist, at the time of the song’s recording, described “Circle of the Noose” as “the greatest pop song I’ve ever been a part of.”

“It’s pop in the sense of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, hook,” he said. “The best way I can describe it is it’s like pepped-up ‘60s folk with ‘90s ideals, but I would hate to label it as folk because it’s not, it moves.”

Navarro joined Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993 as the latest replacement for former guitarist John Frusicante. Navarro was fired by the Chili Peppers in 1998 due to a harrowing drug addiction, which hindered the band’s recording process.
