Ok, so last night I finished Daredevil Season One. After the last frame, the only thing I could think was WOW! In all honesty, it may be the best entry yet into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was dark, it was gritty, it was everything I could have hoped for in the series.

Now, if you're thinking, 'Oh, it's Marvel. Let me grab the kids and watch this superhero show', don't. This is NOT a kids show. The Disney logo (Marvel's Parent Company) doesn't appear anywhere on this show and for good reason. Unlike the Avengers, where there is limited blood and realistic violence, this show comes complete with graphic stabbings and broken bones, a decapitation, and even a corpse half eaten by rats. So, kids should probably steer clear from this one.

With all that being said, this is the show Daredevil deserves. Daredevil is a complex character that doesn't rely on superpowers or one-liners to thrive, he uses martial arts to pummel the bad guys into submission. He breaks bones, knocks out teeth, and everything short of killing a guy to get what he wants.

The show really captures Matt Murdock's internal struggle of trying to figure out how far is too far. When up against a seemingly indestructible villain (Vincent D'ONofrio was fantastic as the Kingpin), Matt had to figure whether to kill the guy or use the legal system to bring him down. And that decision, mixed with Matt's lawyer mind and Catholic guilt, really give great depth to the character.

Now, for you pure comic fans, there are some fantastic easter eggs built into the show. Seemingly, Daredevil sets the stage for the upcoming Civil War movie. Again, no spoilers, but this show perfectly set up the beginning stages for that story line. Not to mention, you get little hints of what may lay ahead when you see in Melvin Potter's storage unit, complete with rudimentary buzz saw weapons for his alter the Gladiator and a pair of legs for the Stiltman.

And that's just the tip. I could go on for days about how great this show truly was, but that would include spoilers and I don't want to do that. What I will say is this: whether you are a fan of superhero movies or Daredevil himself is irrelevant. You strip away the Marvel licensing, this is still a fantastic show. The character development is great, the dialogue is well written, and the story is rich. If you're expecting the normal light hearted Marvel fair, this is not for you. This is an adult story for adult viewers. It's cerebral and at many points will hit you right in the feels.

A few months ago, I wasn't really that interested in Marvel's next Netflix ventures including Luke Cage and Iron Fist, but this show has made me believe. I'm sold 100% and am in need of more!
