[UPDATE] According to Scott McCloud of SWEPCO, power to the Shreveport-Bossier area has been restored following the accident. The roadway has also been reopened.

[Original story] Shreveport police and Caddo sheriff's deputies continue to block the area around the 5800 block of Bert Kouns so SWEPCO can repair power lines that were knocked down during a wreck early this morning.

The power company has updated its estimated time for road re-opening to after 5 p.m. today. As of 8:30 this morning, there are still more than 1,300 customers in the dark. Tune in to 710 KEEL for additional updates.

More than 4,000 SWEPCO customers in Caddo and Bossier Parishes lost power early this morning.

Spokesman Peter Main tells KEEL News that about 1,700 Haughton customers were affected when a tree limb fell on a power line. Power in that area has since been restored. Main says the outages there lasted about an hour.

In Caddo Parish, nearly 2,500 customers remain without power after a vehicle hit a wire supporting a transmission structure in the 5800 block of Bert Kouns. The structure broke and fell into the power lines below.

Main says two circuits are affected and repairs are needed. But he has no estimated time it will take to finish that work.

In the meantime, Shreveport police have that area of Bert Kouns shut down so repairs can be made.
