Online science videos have a massive following on sites like YouTube and Facebook. Which is probably a product of generations being raised on Mr. Wizard, Bill Nye The Science Guy, and Beakman's World. There's probably some credit to be given to the Mythbusters guys too.

Some of the videos you can find online are great, others are terrible. Thankfully this one is on the great side.

The Backyard Scientist thought that a video of a watermelon exploding would be pretty exciting. There had to be some let down initially when that didn't happen. BUT, what did end up happening was probably cooler than an exploding fruit.
