A town clerk for Oil City has been charged with stealing over $24,000 from the office.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says 44-year-old Melissa Doise is charged with felony theft for embezzling cash and manipulating accounting records in an effort to conceal the theft, which occurred between January 2013 and this August.

Sheriff's Detective Yomeka Evans investigated the case for the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force. She said Doise altered accounting records and disposed of deposit slips to cover up the theft. Doise turned hersenf in at Caddo Correctional Center after a warrant was issued for her arrest. Her bond is set at $35,000.
