Cell phone footage has surfaced of a Shreveport cop and a grocery store clerk beating a shoplifting suspect. The incident happened Friday night after Michael Griffin was suspected of stealing from the Brookshire's on Kings highway.

Corporal K. McKenzie was the officer involved in the incident. According to witnesses, Griffin defied orders to stop and took a swing at McKenzie which led to the violent encounter.

Griffin was booked on charges of theft of goods and resisting an officer with force. He suffered several lacerations to his face during the incident.

Police Department spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines said no complaint about excessive force had been filed against Cpl. McKenzie but that the Department will be reviewing how to better handle these types of situations.

The clerk in the video has not been identified and Brookshire's officials are reviewing his involvement in the matter.
