New Orleans Mayor Lobbies to Bring “The Late Show” to the Crescent City [PHOTO]

With David Letterman's recent announcement that he would be retiring in 2015, and CBS's follow-up naming Stephen Colbert as his replacement, the next step is the decision as to what city 'The Late Show' will call home.

While it's possible that the show could stay in it's current home at The Ed Sullivan Theater, most are banking on Colbert to move the show - possibly to get out of Letterman's gigantic shadow.

With that in mind, Los Angeles was the first to step up and bid for the show.  Who could blame them, since New York snatched 'The Tonight Show' out from under them when Jimmy Fallon took the reins from Jay Leno a few short months ago?

Apparently, though, there's another player, as New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has tossed the Crescent City into the mix:

Mitch has some valid points: New Orleans is one of the top vacation destinations in the country; there's plenty of historic buildings that could be renovated into studios; the tax credits the state gives the television and movie business; and you want unique characters (the kind Dave built the show around in the early years)?  What city has more than New Orleans?

Industry observers say a move out of New York is unlikely because CBS owns the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Letterman’s show is based.  But CBS says they're looking at all options, and NOLA definitely something for Mr. Moonves to consider.  Who knows?  By late 2015, we could be hearing "Live from New Orleans!  It's 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!'"  Has a ring to it, don't you think?
