Murder Numbers Are Up Across the Country

Shreveport has recorded 27 murders so far this year, just one shy of last years number of 28. But Shreveport is not alone in seeing higher murder rates this year.

Chicago is the one city where the murder rate continues to skyrocket. In Chicago, violence is a huge problem. The latest report shows there have been 445 murders in the Windy City this year. Last year there were 468 murders in Chicago.

St. Louis is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the country and has recorded 121 murders so far this year compared to 188 murders in 2015.

We did some checking around our region and found that Baton Rouge has recorded 24 murders this year, but the number is 34 if you include all of East Baton Rouge Parish. New Orleans has recorded 100 so far this year. Last year, there were 71 murders in Baton Rouge. That number is 164 for New Orleans during 2015.

In Jackson, Mississippi there have been 35 murders so far this year. There were 31 murders last year.

There have been 16 murders in Little Rock so far this year. There were 28 murders during all of 2015.

Dallas had 136 murders in 2015. So far this year there have been 103 murders. This includes the murders of 5 police officers in July.
