The party animals at Shreveport-Bossier's Krewe of Barkus and Meoux have named Mr. Kippers, an English bull terrier, as their parade's Grand Marshall.

“We’re pleased and excited about what Mr. Kippers is doing to benefit other animals,” said Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Events Chair Ginger Paul. “He’s got his own line of bow ties, a blog and even a Facebook page.”

It's true: Mr. Kippers is kind of a big deal in the already star-studded local Mardi Gras scene. His Classic Kippers blog is a fun read for local Mardi Gras aficionados (i.e. almost everyone), and his line of bow ties is definitely not for the dogs.

Mr. Kippers' meteoric rise to the top of Barkus and Meoux belies his tragic past. The English bull terrier suffered in an abusive home before he was adopted by Shreveport natives Gordon and Amanda Clingan.

The Clingans took their adopted dog's plight to heart, vowing to donate proceeds from the sales of his bow tie collections to organizations which help abused and neglected animals.

The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux's annual Pet Parade rolls out Feb. 23.
