Police have launched an investigation into an early-morning shooting that left a man dead in east Shreveport.

Just before 5:30 this morning, patrol officers were called to a home in the 400 block of Abilene Street, where they found 28-year-old James Shivers suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was taken to University Health, where he died a short time later.

As detectives were combing through evidence at the home, they got information from dispatchers that an adult male had arrived at University Health with a gunshot wound to the hand. Police say the man is connected to the Abilene shooting, but has not been officially listed as a suspect.

According to preliminary information, Shivers was at the home when a fight erupted between him and the second shooting victim. It's believed Shivers was shot during the altercation, but investigators are still looking for additional information.

No arrests have been made yet.
