With gas prices at some of the lowest levels we've seen in years more and more drivers are taking to Louisiana's highways these days. According to the American Automobile Association the lowest prices on gas in 12 years have put an extra $10 billion dollars in the pockets of motorist. That equates to most of us having already saved about $45 buck on our fuel bills just during the first quarter of this year compared to last year.

While the low prices have been nice in some ways. They have certainly had detrimental effects on the economy of our state. There is a bit of  a good news, bad news scenario shaping up over the next few months. Analyst believe that an increase in the price of gas will come before Memorial Day.

It’s probably not out of the realm of possibility to see anywhere from 25 to 35 cents a gallon increase between now and Memorial Day.

Those are the comments of Triple A spokesman Mike Right. Right made his comments to the Louisiana Radio Network. He also suggested that while demand for gasoline is continuing to climb and refineries are making seasonal adjustments to their fuel blends there is very little speculation that prices will climb as high as they were at this time in 2015.

We’re probably going to be paying anywhere from 30 to 40 cents less than what we were paying this same time last year.

According the U.S. Department of Transportation the lower fuel prices are spurring a larger demand for gasoline. The current average price for a gallon of gas in Louisiana is $1.88 per gallon. The average cost for a gallon of that same fuel nationwide is $2.04 per gallon.
