Shreveport Police Chief Alan Crump has been facing scrutiny from many circles over the past few weeks. Now we are getting reports from inside city hall and within the police department that the Chief is about to step down.

I have been receiving calls and text messages about a change on the way. It's difficult to confirm any of these reports, but I did want to share some of the information I have received.

Crump has been the Chief for 1 year, but he has spent more than 20 years as a police officer. At the time, Crump told the media: "I do not take this responsibility lightly — and I will continue to strive to maintain a level of professionalism and transparency that will preserve the confidence of the citizens of this great city,"

Crump took over the top cop job when Willie Shaw retired.

Mayor Ollie Tyler selected seven finalists for the chief's job this time last year. Crump was on that list along with Janice Dailey, Rodney Horton, Darwin Jones, Greg Jones, Benjamin Raymond and Wayne Smith.

Now, back to the reports about Crump stepping aside. One source tells me Crump will "step aside and Wayne Smith will be named interim Chief".

Another tells me "I heard Monday he was going to retire this week. He reportedly took a vacation to soul search and decide what he wanted to do."

From within the police department, a high ranking official tells me "I have heard those reports, but so far there has been no confirmation. I do know Mayor Tyler wants to keep Crump."

KEEL News did reach out to the Mayor for a comment on the future of Chief Crump, but so far, we have not gotten a response.
