Seems like every other day there’s a new study that ranks Shreveport somewhere near the bottom of the list of good things that people want in a city in the U.S. Things like low crime, low taxes, decent income level, etc. Sometimes it feels like we’re the punching bag for the state. But there are plenty of things about Louisiana’s third-largest city of which we can be proud. Here are just a few.
Shreveport At One Time Was The State Capitol
During the Civil War Shreveport was Louisiana’s capitol from 1863-1865. Baton Rouge and Opelousas had both come under Union control and the capitol was relocated to Shreveport. The city remained a Confederate stronghold throughout the war.

The numerous casinos and music venues provide entertainment year-round.
Shreveport Has Outdoor Sports Galore
From parks and golf courses, to lakes and hiking trails Shreveport is an outdoorsman’s paradise.
