Foregoing the deluge of single-character reveal trailers, this week NetherRealm Studios decided to give the popular WWE gaming channel Up, Up, Down, Down the hot tip on the latest roster addition. After getting a bit of a tour of the studio behind the Mortal Kombat series, speaking with Ed Boon, and just clowning around like good wrestle-buddies do, Xavier, Kofi, Bayley, and Sasha get to spend a little time with Firestorm in Injustice 2.

Around the 5:30 mark is when the Firestorm action begins, and I don't think many comic fans will be disappointed by the results. Though some in the fighting community might not find Firestorm very impressive compared to the rest of the roster, it's a rare sight to get a character like this included. He's a ranged fighter that makes use of basic fire attacks, so if you were hoping for some transmutation abilities, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Also, I don't know how that would even work in a normal game, let alone a fighting game, without breaking the mechanics immediately.

Anyway, Jason Rusch appears to be the Firestorm in Injustice's world, and he more than handles himself against Doctor Fate in the brief demo shown in the video --- even if Fate was tanking on purpose. You don't get a great sense of his abilities from the short bit of gameplay, but we do learn that Firestorm can "go nuclear" with his character power. His flames then turn blue, and likely dole out more damage than the standard orange flame versions.

Firestorm's special attack seemingly draws opponents to the center of the Earth, where he unleashes a massive fire attack, including summoning some extra nuclear power to lay the smack down. He's animated beautifully, and I love how his flames look in action. The next character reveal is coming next week on March 23, so we won't have to wait too much longer to see who Firestorm and the other characters will face off against next.

Injustice 2 will be out on May 16 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
