This story actually starts in Shreveport, where John Scurlock first discovered that people could be entertained by playing on inflated tennis court covers. This was back in 1959. About a decade later, John and his wife opened a production facility and rental company in New Orleans, called Space Walk. The company still operates to this day:

Scurlock went on to invent many inflatable devices that get used daily across the world, but none of his achievements will ever be as fun as the bounce house.
