A helicopter crashed into Wallace Lake just after noon Wednesday in Northern DeSoto Parish.

DeSoto Deputies responded to the rural scene after being contacted by the FAA regarding a missing helicopter. The chopper left from the helipad at Horseshoe Casino at about midnight on Wednesday morning headed for Center, TX. But the chopper did not arrive in Texas. Family members called to notify authorities and that's when the search began.

The FAA advised Deputies that contact was lost with the chopper at about 12:20 a.m. Authorities were able to get the GPS location of last contact and sent crews to the area to begin the search.

Life Air Rescue was able to reach the area and locate what appeared to be wreckage in the southern part of  Wallace Lake in DeSoto Parish. The chopper went down in a muddy overgrown part of the lake. It was an area that was difficult to reach, even with specialized equipment.

There were two occupants in the helicopter and both died in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be on the scene to conduct the investigation.
