In brightest day, in blackest night, no movie rumor shall escape our sight. Next year’s Justice League has been sans Green Lantern so far, with no news for sure that the intergalactic crimefighter will appear in the movie, despite the fact that he’s historically been a hugely important member of the group. Today, it’s now rumored that the Green Lantern Corps will appear in the movie, but it might not be our familiar human member of the force.

Today, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez said in his Justice League “what we know so far” roundup that, “A member of the Green Lantern Corps. will be seen in Justice League in a key sequence.” The Lanterns are a vast and growing group, with members of every sentient species across the known universe interested in keeping the peace, so this “member” could be absolutely anyone. John Stewart or his predecessor Hal Jordan should probably show up in the Justice League eventually, since they’re not really the Justice League without him, but it wouldn’t be necessary to have him there right at the beginning. It could be one of the non-human members of the Green Lantern Corps that shows up, and he or she or it may not even be in the scene for that long. Gonzalez specified “a key sequence,” so this could mean anything from a weird dream montage halfway through the movie like in Batman v. Superman, to a post-credits scene introducing us to the coming evil of Darkseid.

There’s also a chance they’ll pull a Wonder Woman and throw Hal or John right into the middle of the final boss battle. That scene in Batman v. Superman when we see Diana Prince in her Wonder Woman getup for the first time was impressive, but would it work a second time? Earlier this year, producer Charles Roven said that Green Lantern probably wouldn’t appear in the DCEU until Justice League: Part 2. The first film already has a ton of characters to introduce who will be fleshed out later in their own solo outings, so saving Green Lantern for a later movie might not be a bad idea.

Justice League is set to hit theaters November 17, 2017.
