99X Rock-A-Holics and winners had the the opportunity to be in attendance earlier today for an exclusive acoustic performance by P.O.D. and Aranda at Blade Studios. Two amazing live bands, and the unbelievable environment, equipment, engineer and acoustics of Blade Studios made for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Hopefully, we’ll get our hands on the audio from the studio so we can share it here and on-air. In the meantime, you can at least get some idea of what what went down today with this acoustic version of their hit song “Alive.”

Not only is May 4 the day of the Cuatro de Mayo Party, but it’s also Star Wars Day. What better way to celebrate the movies that made me wish I could turn off the light switch from across the room than with hot chicks wearing Star Wars costumes?

The traffic lights at the intersection of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Youree Drive in Shreveport near IHOP and Walmart were knocked down by an 18-wheeler into the middle of the busy intersection Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m.

The lights fell near IHOP and Walmart, cutting off one end of the street from the other.

We received the below pictures from a 710 KEEL listener, Leigh Anne Jones,  who also told us that at least one car appeared to have metal on top of it. No injuries have been reported so far.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the intersection of Bert Kouns and Youree Drive for the next several hours while city work crews scramble to restore a traffic signal downed by an 18-wheeler.

The repair work required is extensive and the intersection has been closed to traffic in all directions. There is no immediate estimate for how long the repairs will take but commuters should plan to use alternate routes such as East Kings Highway or Millicent Way until further notice.

What looked to be the start of a dreary day for Easter on the Bayou turned out to be a great day full of fun. There were many colorful, candy-filled eggs scattered throughout the woods for the children to hunt, good food and other fun activities for the families to enjoy.

The gates opened about 8 a.m. and the Easter egg hunting and activities began at 10. Children enjoyed bouncy houses, inflatable slides, face painting booths and an inflatable rock climbing wall. Vendors such as McAlister’s and Newk’s Restaurants, as well as the event sponsor, MetroPCS, had booths set up down by the picnic area where some families enjoyed lunch down by the water. Overall, a good time was had by all.

Kid Rock, Buckcherry and Hellbound Glory rolled into Bossier City’s CenturyLink Center on Wednesday (Feb. 13) for a little pre-Valentine’s Day rock n’ roll.

Was the show worth the wait? If you paid for a ticket, Kid Rock made it worth the money. Here’s what I thought of each band’s performance.

Hellbound Glory

Hellbound Glory was a good fit and is a pretty decent Americana band. I’m an Americana Rock fan, though a bit partial. I can’t say they were exciting, but how can you be when the crowd doesn’t care to watch you? They gave it their all, so for a virtually unknown band with no familiar songs, not bad.

As for the band’s future, I have no clue. They could be the next Black Keys, or the next no-hit wonder.

Buckcherry

Now, let’s talk about Buckcherry.

Josh Todd was a douche for not knowing what f___ing city he was in. Pro-tip, Josh: before you hit the stage, ask someone how to say the name of the city you’re playing. It’s pronounced bo-shur, not boss-ee-a.

I’m going to take a guess here, but Josh Todd and Keith Nelson are not big fans of each other. (Is that ‘we’re in it for the money’ I hear playing somewhere in the background?) Keith is a kick-ass guitarist, but he stayed the hell out of the spotlight and away from Josh, with the exception of two photo-ops.

On the plus side, Buckcherry went through the hits and that is why we went, so I can’t complain. However, it felt like they were phoning it in a bit.

In the end, Buckcherry is the result of bad heroin and the knowledge that Keith and Josh are nothing as solo artists, but are stars as Buckcherry. So, they tolerate each other. Chances of this imploding? I’d say 80 percent within the next three years unless rehab is introduced.

Kid Rock

Kid Rock. What can you say? He is equal parts Jimmy Buffet, Sammy Hagar and Bob Seger. Last night, he included the feeling of Lynyrd Skynyrd to the show.

No matter what you may think, Kid Rock plays to his fanbase (adults, not kids) and you walk away with the distinct feeling that he cares about the people who paid for their ticket.

He has a hell of a catalog of music, helps Shriners Hospitals for Children (a local charity and something that is near and dear to my heart) and has his own line of Jim Beam. If that wasn’t enough, he’s endorsed by Harley-Davidson

The only part that was odd was the last encore. Not quite sure why we should be excited about the New Year, but the balloons and confetti were fun.

On a scale of 1-10, I’d give Hellbound Glory a 5, Buckcherry a 5 and Kid Rock an 8.

The costumes were amazing with each having a ‘tie’ if  you will back to the year the royalty represented. Queen Lea Ann Breen was resplendent with her fleur-de-lis back piece and King John Favrot rocked a ginormous Louisiana shaped back piece.

Captain Matthew Stevens harkened back to the krewe’s beginning sporting a huge back piece with orange feathers that was first introduced in 2006 at the inception of the krewe. Check out all of the festivities in our photo gallery below.

We aren’t exactly morning people, but if there’s one thing that will get us up and at full attention it’s hot cheerleaders. Wearing booty shorts. In the 99X studio. Yep.

The Sideline Group‘s team of all-star cheerleaders, appropriately called The Sideline Dolls, stopped by this morning to talk about its Road to the Big Game Tour 2013.

The group is looking to do good with a youth initiative and follow-up stop at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Shreveport. However, all it took was hearing the word “cheerleader” in an announcement and the red-blooded male population of the building abandoned their offices and rushed to gawk at the girls.

This event is in preparation of the krewe choosing this year’s animal royalty at the Royalty Raffle this coming Sunday at Petco, 6596 Youree Drive in Shreveport starting at 2pm. Your pet can be royalty at the parade. Pete John of Raising Cane’s is the Grand Marshall. Signup is at the event and registration is $15 for your first pet, $10 for additional.  Royal Raffle chances are $1 each. Come and stuff the ballot box for your pet to be King or Queen. We’ll be talking to Duchess Crystal this Friday about the event so make sure to listen!

FYI, the Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade is Sunday, February 3rd at Riverview Park across from SciPort. The theme is “Stars, Guitars, and Animals from Mars.” Registration is at 1:30 p.m. and the parade rolls at 3:00 p.m. The cost to enter parade is $20.

Guests entered through a foyer with cut outs of the royal court and segued to the bal room to find not one, but two stages of entertainment. The Tableau was spectacular with their royalty presented in a dazzling array of lights! The crowd was charmed by hosts Ed Walsh and Jody Lowery from KTBS. The blessing was provided by Father Provenza. Susan Shofner was honored with the Captains award. The Krewe of Centaur parade is coming up Saturday, February 2nd and we will be broadcasting live from The Office which is on the parade route. Keep listening to win special passes to Centaur’s inflatable kids area on the parade route as well! All Hail Centaur! Town Square Media is proud to be a corporate sponsor!

The crowd was festive and the royalty resplendent! As you can tell from the pictures, the costuming and decorations were first rate. The band Lipstick Blonde out of Nashville had the party going the second one stepped foot inside the Riverdome. Congrats to the Krewe of Justinian on a successful event!

Female fans of several major college teams are showing their school pride on Twitter. And, by school pride, we mean their boobs — showcased in cleavage-baring, skin-tight college shirts in self-shot pictures posted to Twitter.

The college-team boobs trend started last February, when University of Kansas student Tiffany Kent tweeted a photo of her boobs in a KU shirt, with the hashtag #kuboobs, as the Jayhawks were attempting to rally in a game against arch-rival Missouri. Kansas won, and Kent now has more than 20,000 followers at the Twitter handle @KUboobs. The Internet: where you can meet 20,000 random dudes who wouldn’t recognize you from the neck up.

Not to be outdone, fans of Oklahoma, Indiana, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Nebraska and many other schools have created their own @boobs profiles featuring pictures of coeds and fans showing off their team spirit by displaying their boobs like they were over-ripened cantaloupes stuffed into much-too-small plastic shopping bags. The children at Miss Holli’s Child Development Center in Benton got a big and loud surprise this morning, thanks to a visit from Monster Nation‘s colossal monster truck, “Toxic.”

The excited kids were crawling all over the truck, but calmed down enough to pose for some pictures with its driver, Travis. One little boy was so enamored with the machine that he asked his dad, “Can we take it home with us?”

Miss Holli’s won the visit after a listener submitted a heartfelt letter to 99X and Monster Nation’s “Wake Up the Neighborhood” contest.

The truck is in town this week to take part in Monster Nation’s Jurassic Bash at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City today and tomorrow (Jan. 18-19). Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster here.
